I'm realizing that... other than the two posts on here, there is nothing on here. Nothing at all. I'm also realizing that I have almost *zero* pictures of my knitting. So, I make a pledge to you. I will get those knitting photos loaded up on Flickr, and post some pictures on here, so y'all can actually see what the heck I can knit. Because right now, all you have is my word. That I am indeed a fiber addict. I can talk the talk, but it'd be nice to walk the walk as well..

I do promise. Knit pictures. Coming soon to a blog near you. Uh, near here. Ok, here. Soon.

And perhaps even more pictures. Of other things.

Like these guys. Don't they look like trouble? From left to right, we have Victor, Cocoa, and Hiro. Victor is my main guy, the other two are brothers, and mostly do nothing but torment my poor pony. Hiro is the stud of the farm. Literally. He's got a girlfriend elsewhere on the premises that is hopefully expecting a wee foal come August. Babies!! Fun times.

And this would be the three in-house beasties. Orange cat is Hendrix. Typical orange grumpy feline. We love him, and he hates us. The handsome fluffy grey thing is Chipper. He's the Mama's boy of the bunch. And the tabby. That'd be Kika. She's pure feline evil. (And also my husband's cat, for the record...)

So, I know they're not knits pictures, but it's a little something to tide you over until I get them uploaded. :) Enjoy!

What better way to get to know my fellow knitters out there than to jump in and join the Punk Rock Gift Exchange? I was hesitant about joining, but I think it'll be fun, I'll meet a few folks in the process, and hey, there are presents involved. Whee!

So, without further ado, the questionnaire.

1. How long have you been knitting/crocheting/spinning? I've been knitting for a few years now, been seriously trying to develop my skills for about two years now. No crochet, no spinning.

2. Do you consider yourself a beginner, novice or experienced yarn artist? I consider myself a novice. I can do most things, but I still have a lot to learn, and I'm always looking for the next project that will double as a lesson.. I have knit garments, stuff on HUGE needles, stuff on 0's. Cables, Lace, pattern stitches.. I guess if you measure by how quickly you can get a project done, however, that's where I lack. I'm still on the slow side. therefore, the sock/fingerless mitts/hat things really appeals to me. I like small, portable projects.

3. What fibers (materials) have you knit/crochet with? Cotton, Wool, Silk, and too many novelty yarns.

4. What are your favorite yarns? Thus far, I love anything Knit Picks makes, Cascade Fixation for socks, noro kureyon.

5. What fibers are you dying to try? Lorna's Laces! and.. Bamboo, Soy, any of that cool stuff...

6. Do you prefer solid, self striping, or handpainted yarns? I like em all. I'm not very good at color work (that's next on the to-do list of learning), so I tend to like yarns that do that part for me. Bigger fan of the handpainted stuff. That's my favorite.

7. What fibers do you dislike? anything that feels fake. I'm not a fan of acrylic.

8. What are your favorite colors? Purples, Greens, Blues... cool colors. And warm neutrals - browns, beiges, creams..

9. What are your least favorite colors? pink. or anything too loud and neon-like.

10. How did you learn to knit/crochet/spin? My mother had taught me when I was a kid, but I had forgotten how to do any of it. A friend's MIL offered to teach some of us girls how to knit on a cold winter weekend.. and I've been hooked since.

11. What projects are you currently working on? A cotton baby hat, DH's sweater, and my neverending shrug. and i have one sock of three different pairs done.

12. How old is your oldest UFO? What is it? Will it ever be finished? The shrug. It started as a poncho 2 years ago, that I started well before I had any concept of gauge, and 4 skeins deep, decided that this wasn't working, frogged it, and actually used the yarn for a shrug pattern that called for it.

13. What is the most heartbreaking project that you ever frogged? see previous question. (I tend to see if the mistakes are visible, and if I can live with them rather than frog..)

14. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? I'm finding that I prefer circular needles. Less cumbersome.

15. Do you own a swift and/or a winder? Nope.

16. Where do you keep your needles? In a plastic baggie in my yarn bin..

17. Do you enjoy helpful hints about your knitting or does it just piss you off? It depends. I'm always looking for a better way to do what I'm doing, but if it's something I know how to do, and can do it well, that's when helpful advice never comes off the right way...

18. What techniques are you still a virgin in (lace, cables, ect.) and are you interested in trying them? Intarsia, Fair Isle, and anything more than just a basic cable. I'm gearing up for Fair Isle.

19. What knitting magazines do you subscribe to? Interweave Knits. mmm.

20. Are there any books, needles, yarn, patterns that you are dying to get your hands on? I've heard nice things about Brittany needles, wouldn't mind getting some of them, and Rowan yarn. I've never knit with Rowan. or Koigu. :(

21. Do you enjoy knitting socks? How big are your feet? YES! I have flippers. ha. Women's size 9.5.

22. Do you have a wish list? In my head... Maybe I should compile one.

23. What are your non-knitting, crochet, spinning hobbies? I have horses, they're my therapy. Been riding since I was a kid, and have no desire to live without having the ability to hop on and go for a ride.

24. How do you feel about sports? Love em. Baseball and Football especially. College Football. College Basketball. whee.

25. What is your favorite season? Least favorite season? Why? I LOVE AUTUMN. That's the reason I can never leave New England. The colors here in the fall are my reason for enduring the winters. Not a huge fan of spring, though. I have allergies, and, well, the mud. Horse people refer to it as Mud season.

26. What is your favorite holiday? ThanksgivingChristmas.

27. Do you like handmade gifts? What crafty chick doesn't? Absolutely. And I'm blessed to have a family of crafty people that appreciate homemade gifts as well.

28. Do you wear jewelry that isn't real? meaning? I wear jewelry that is pretty. As long as it doesn't turn my skin green.

29. What are your favorite foods? Scents that you love? Foods. ha. all of em. I like chocolate, fruity sweets, and meat-n-taters. Scents - I usually go for clean scents or again, the fruity stuff. No flowery old lady smells.

30. What is your family situation? Do you live alone? I am married.

31. Do you have any pets? 3 cats. And the horses, but they don't live in the house. :)

32. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3's? I like rock, pop, blues, classical, showtunes, a little of most things. There's not much I can't listen to. I have mp3 capabilities.

33. What are your favorite movies? TV shows? Actors? There's not enough room for this one. TV's easy. I don't watch much. I LOVE Lost, House, and anything in the supernanny/wife swap/trading spouses genre. trainwreck tv, my DH calls it. And Family Guy. Movies, well, just about anything. Actors, Johnny Depp, Al Pacino, Uma Thurman, Edward Norton (Fight Club is my all time fave), thrillers, dramas..

34. What do you collect? other than clutter? ha. anything horsie. seriously. I have a friend who made me two cast bronze horses, horse art, horsie stuff.

35. What do you do in real life -- besides knit and blog? I work in a pathology research lab. Yes, I'm a nerd.

36. When is your birthday? Is it a national holiday or just another day? This year it's a holiday! Septermber 3rd. This year, it's on Labor day. Virgo all the way. (except for the clutter. but, it's organized clutter...)

37. Do you have any allergies, medical conditions or disorders that your pal should be aware of (ie. diabetes, food/pet allergies, ect.)? none that I am aware of.

38. Are there any scents, phobias, or sensory thing (ie, the way certain objects feel) that your pal should be aware of? snakes and spiders. uhhhhggnnngh.

39. What is the most difficult thing that you have ever knit/crochet? lace on size 0. With beads. It was hard. but I loved it!

40. What is your personal style? Is there a time period/fashion movement that you take your cues from? Not really. I love the style of the 40's, and when I do get all gussied up, I try to go classic. In the everyday, I'm a jeans and shirt kinda girl. The hair's done, a little makeup on, but clothes that I'm comfortable in. I do have tattoos and a piercing or two, so I'm not completely LL Bean.. I just play her on TV. (Hence the blog title... ) :)

41. Anything else that you would like to say? I'm really excited about joining in on this - I've been lurking on the Punk Rock Knits site for a while, and been checking out all the linked blogs, and was trying to figure out how to break in to the group. Thought this would be a good way to get involved. I can't wait!!

My inaugural knit post... Allow me to introduce myself.

(And apologies for the lack of style on the page.. I'm working on it.)

I'm Stella. I'm a New England chick, born and raised. Fairly new to the knit scene, online anyway. I'm more or less self-taught. I had a friend's mother in law give me the basics, and I've been off and running since. Pictures and more to come, I promise. Until then, I offer you the following:

5. Favorite pattern?

Toe-Up Socks. Simple, smart. And Knitty's "Cocktail Monkey".

8. Nicest thing you've ever knit?

I did Knitty's "Branching Out" sccarf for a friend in Trendsetter's Tonalita. So preddy.

9. Most hated project?

That Homespun Scarf.

A Shrug for me (Been a UFO for two years...), a Wool-Ease sweater for DH, legwarmers for my cold mornings at the barn with the ponies, and a never-ending trail of baby hats.
